    STUDY ABROAD PHOTO CONTEST The Spring 2007 study abroad photo contest was a huge success.   Now it's time for the Fall 2007 contest!   Information is available here.

    The 2008 Spring Institute will take place in Barbados and St. Vincent and will focus on Race and the trans-Atlantic trade.  Professors Jon Eastwood (Sociology) and Mark Carey (History) will serve at the program directors.  Check back frequently for more information, or contact Latha Dawson about the application process.

              Past Institutes:

    • The 2007 Spring Institute traveled to Mysore, India and focused on aspects of Indian culture and history in relation to traditions of healthcare and healing.  Professors Tim Lubin, Religion, and Steve Desjardins, Chemistry, led a group of twenty five students to the Dhvanyaloka Centre for Indian Studies.
    • The 2006 Spring Institute was held in Senegal.  We hope to offer a program in Senegal again in coming years.
    •  Faculty are invited to submit proposals for future spring institute through the Provosts office.  For general faculty guidelines regarding proposing and leading Spring Term Abroad programs please click here.  Questions on the program should be directed to William Klingelhofer  x8145, Director of the Center for International Education.

    Upcoming International Events at W&L:

    International Education Week:  November 12 - 16, 2007. Many opportunities to celebrate international education.  Check back for more information. 

    Study Abroad Photo Exhibit:  November 5 - 30, 2007.  Leyburn Library lobby. Come enjoy photos of abroad experiences of W&L students and faculty. 

    Other news:

    Internships available at the Australian Embassy in Washington, DC and the Australian Consulate in Los Angeles. 

    Interns must have completed at least two years of college and have a 3.2 GPA or better.  Responsibilities will include basic event management, student enquiries, database tasks, administrative tasks and research.  The application process includes an application form, resume, and cover letter.  For more information please click here

    STUDY IN ASIA!  Freeman-ASIA Awards of up to $7,000 are available for students participating in undergraduate study abroad programs in the following countries and regions: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
