International Education Resources for FacultyThe Class of '39 International Fellows Program will provide funds for short-term visits of up to six weeks for the purpose of teaching and/or research. The purpose of the program is to enhance our intellectual life with the presence of international scholars by immersing our visitors in the relevant aspects of teaching and research and sharing with us their global perspective on the state of our disciplines. The program is funded by income from the Class of '39 reunion gift to support international education at Washington and Lee. Nominations for Fellows will be directed to the Dean of the College by department heads and should include: a) the nominee's current CV and, b) a description of the responsibilities expected of the Fellow during residence. Funds will be used primarily for travel and honorarium. Nominations will be due March 1 of each year for the following academic year. Examples of responsibilities might include although are not limited to inviting an international scholar to: - teach or team-teach a spring term course or portion of a
fall/winter course; All Class of '39 International Fellows will also be expected to offer a public lecture.

Learning Across Cultures, Gary Althen, ed., an overview by experts in international education of cross-cultural communication and an examination of cultural barriers, culture shock, and the U-curve model of adjustment. Living in the U.S.A., Alison R. Lanier, described as a concise but comprehensive guide to attitudes, customs, manners, and daily life in the United States. Women's Guide to Overseas Living, Nancy J. Piet-Pelon, written
by two American women who have lived abroad for many years.
Intercultural E-Mail Classroom Connections are provided by St.Olaf College as a free service to help teachers and classes link with partners in other countries and cultures for e-mail classroom pen-pal and project exchanges. Since its creation in 1992, IECC has distributed over 19,000 requests for e-mail partnerships. At last count, there were more than 6500 teachers in approximately 70 countries participating in at least one of the IECC lists: how many teachers are participating today? IECC-HE is intended for teachers seeking partner classrooms for international and cross-cultural electronic mail exchanges with institutions of higher education.
